Welcome to the blog of the RCI ACTION COMMITTEE.
Since 1991 we’ve been fighting to protect the international mandate of Canada’s Voice to the World: Radio Canada International, first as the Coalition to Restore Full RCI Funding, and now as the RCI Action Committee.
Both the Committee and the Coalition were, and are, supported by the unions that represent RCI employees.
Together with listeners and supporters, the Coalition fought attempts to shut down RCI in 1991, 1995 and 1996.
The Coalition/Committee has presented several briefs to parliamentary committees in Ottawa, and was behind the creation of a Senate inquiry into the massive cuts at RCI in 1991. A Senate report from this inquiry came out in 1994. Numerous different reports from the Commons Heritage Committee have also raised issues about what’s going on at RCI.
Since 2001, the Committee has fought a series of “re-deployment” and “re-positioning” policies that continue to cut RCI services and independence, and an integration into the domestic service of our public broadcaster CBC/Radio-Canada.
So many years after starting this battle we still need your support. In fact, now more than ever.
The international mandate of RCI is at the heart of our concerns about what’s happening to our international service, please read this text for more details. Keep checking this website as we update with the latest news, or contact us by email.

You’ll find our old/archive site at rciaction.org As you’ll see, there’s a lot of material here. It’s sort of our living archive of our struggle to protect the international mandate and autonomy of a service we really believe in.
Any and all suggestions, questions, and comments welcome.
We`re in this together!

I’m a public high school teacher who looks for useful news sources. RCI has stories and interviews on highly topical issues that no one else posts. I share stories with colleagues, teachers and my newcomer students.
How can I be most effective in keeping RCI in full effect?
Thank you for your comment. The best way to support us is to communicate the importance of RCI to the Prime Minister, and several of his ministers. Here’s a handy guide to what you can do: http://rciaction.org/blog/what-you-can-do/
